As I said in my last post, no one can expect consistency from me. This page was created a month ago and this is my second post. Second? Seriously, Kylee.
But really, this seems like the first time I have had even 5 minutes to wonder what to do. As many of you know, we have just moved to Topeka, Kansas. I love, love, LOVE it! Not that the city of Topeka isn't wonderful, but it's not necessarily Topeka itself that I am in love with. Topeka is just another city. There's plenty to "do" but you're constantly asking your other half, "what do you want to do?" and hearing back from them, "I don't care. There's really nothing to do." It's not true, but it is. Anyway, Topeka is just a city.
So, as I was saying, Jeff and I have been married 10 months now, and I truly feel like this is the first time we have had somewhere we could be comfortable. There was Rolla, where we had friends but hated our surroundings, and then there were those trips to Lee's Summit where we couldn't wait to get there, and then realized we were still living on couches and had to tiptoe around the house after 9pm and just couldn't wait to get back to our holding cell in the middle of nowhere. Rolla. How I DON'T miss it. Miss my friends, but worth the move. That town almost killed me.
Topeka is completely different for us, yet similar enough to be comfortable. We moved everything out of our 2 bed 2 bath apartment and managed not only to cram it all into a 14' U-Haul and carry it upstairs, but to find a place for it all in a 1 bed 1 bath. It's grown up. The walls aren't covered in unframed paintings from high school and there's a tablecloth on the brand new dining room table. I make the bed every morning. We have new sofas and a big screen television. We have cable :) Even Apollo has settled into a routine and settled down quite a bit. I have been referred to as 'the wife of an engineer' by a woman from my husband's office, in the context of how important it is to keep the women in our lives satisfied. I visited his 12 story place of work and met the terribly intelligent people he will be working alongside. ALONGSIDE. Not being their bitch, but working with them. We are freaking adults. The same woman who made the statement, "after all, you are the wife of one of our precious engineers, and if the wife isn't happy, then no one is happy"-- yeah, she was saying that in an email she sent inquiring about my possible employment within the same office. We are growing up.
While I was working in child care, one of the kids I cared for said to me, "Ms. Kylee, I want to be a daddy. Know why? Then I could have kids and a wife and a dog and a big screen tv." I told that to Jeff when it happened a few months ago. Earlier this week he said to me, "I'm almost a daddy." I nearly fell over and asked him to explain. He said, "I have the wife and the big screen tv... and a cat."
Growing up...
